Notes from a Dragon Mom

Parenting, I’ve come to understand, is about loving my child today. Now. In fact, for any parent, anywhere, that’s all there is. (Emily Rapp)

I am a tiger mom.

When I think about my son, it is too often in the future tense. What will he wear, where will he go to school, when should he start potty training.

I read an article this weekend that had been making the rounds on Facebook.  A beautiful and difficult article to read, it taught me just how silly and frivolous my future tense thoughts are.

Please read Notes from a Dragon Mom by Emily Rapp. You will cry.

Then, you'll go wrap your babes up tight and love them as fiercely as you can today.

Girl, I read that article yesterday and it really put things in perspective. I couldn't imagine what that mom is feeling. It makes my problems of Landon screaming at bedtime just seem silly. I think she would give her right arm for her son to do the same and here I am complaining about it. I can't say that I will stop but I will definitely be more grateful.

http://mamacritic.blogspot.com/2011/04/tiger-mama-vs-sloth-mama.html Hey Gin, me again (your #1 fan). I wrote about the same thing back in April. You are exactly right. Makes you wanna squeeze your babies!

Thanks for sharing, Gin. I'm so blessed, and so is Ronan and so is Emily, all in different and tangible ways. Thanks for the good cry.

Perfect timing for me to read this piece, as I feel sorry for myself now that my maternity leave is coming to an end. I'm so worried about what I didn't get organized while I was off, what I need to do to get Eleanor on a schedule for the babysitters, etc., when I really should just take the time to enjoy her sleeping on my chest.

You have me blubbering over here. That was incredibly moving.

I read that and was like whoah. Which sounds so silly, but it's true. I can't imagine having the strength some people have.
