I'm a Little Weird

Today's fashion poses are brought to you by Casa de Kelsey.  Special thanks to the photographer, the oh-so-handsome Matt.

Top: Express
Since I like to keep it real with y'all, I'll tell you that this blouse is the one I wore at Toph's party.  I have not washed it since then and needed the scarf to cover the cream cheese frosting that was still caked on the shoulders.

Jeans: Kohl's (Vera Wang)
These jeans fit awesome the first day I wear them after a wash.  They had not been washed in several wearings.
Scarf: Forever 21
I've had that scarf for two years and just wore it Saturday for the first time.

Shoes:  Kenneth Cole Outlet (holla)

Earrings:  UO
A holdover from my sassy college days

Bracelet:  T & Co; gifted by my mother-in-law upon my engagement to her son (yes, I know I am very, very lucky.)

That's my outfit; the fact that the two main pieces of clothing had not been washed (they smelled fine and yes, my underwear was clean which we all know is the important part) probably makes me a little weird.

You want to know why else I'm weird?

My collegue had a gun pointed at her while driving home last week from work.  When she described the event to police, they told her it sounded like a gang initiation.  This happened no more than an eighth of a mile away from where I teach.

I think I might be weird because while I was scared for my colleague, I felt overwhelming anger at the young man who decided to point that gun at her.

Anger at him for pointing a gun at a woman who has probably taught someone in his family.
Anger at him for wielding a gun so close to where my students live.
Anger that another gang related incident has happened so close to our school.
Anger at I-don't-know-what for the path that led this young man to point guns at people in the road in broad daylight.

I guess I should be scared but I refuse to drive in the neighborhood where I work and not make eye contact with people walking down the road.  It strengthens my reserve in my decision to teach inner city kids; so that one day, they will NOT be the gangsta-thug wielding guns on a busy road in broad daylight.

In sum, weirdo, to be sure.  But one on a mission (and hopefully looking good doing it; but that's debatable).

As always Gin I love your posts! And I'll admit I sometimes wear clothes that I haven't washed....haha and the sad part is that I don't have a child that I can blame it on

Hi, so glad you stopped by from UBP11. I love your blog and am now your 50th follower. Is there a prize? Or at least balloons falling from the ceiling somewhere? As far as your "clean" clothes, not sure if you read my about me section but I regularly put things in the dryer for 5 minutes and call them clean so no judgement here. If I don't have cheerios stuck to my butt, it's a good fashion day for me :)

I LOVE how honest you are! Let's be real, the jeans I'm wearing today haven't been washed in like 5 wearings either. ROCK ON MOMMA!

That is so scary about your coworker! I subbed in a totally shady district for a year and had some nasty things said to me, but luckily I never encountered any real issues. SO PROUD that you are out there working to make these kids' lives better!

I feel less weird now because I, too, sometimes wear clothes that are odor free and "mostly" clean. And I always wear my jeans many times before washing. I love it. You look fab. And, props for being THAT teacher. I heart you.

Not weird honey but totally normal (although I have never been a fan of that word). If we washed our clothes every time we put them on they would wear out really quickly and we would use so much more water (eco friendly girls wear twice hehe). I also understand re your teaching, keep on honey love is always stronger than hate. Have a lovely safe week. ax

You're a hot mama! Yikes about your friend. Glad she is ok. That would be terrible.

Wish you'd taken closeups of the jewelry! Just so you know, you're not alone in your weirdness... lol. I'm weird too! I take a lot of pride in my weirdness, actually. :) I don't want to be like everyone else, and I definitely am not.

My husband and I joke about the fact that everything we like is what gets discontinued because it wasn't popular (we guess). It even happened with our wedding china. I always want to do things differently. Had the lyrics to the processional music I chose for our wedding sung.

It's okay. Embrace your weirdness! ;)

Late for #commenthour!

Love the outfit! And kudos for teaching where you do. I used to teach in a HS with a gang problem, and it can be very scary.
